With the early release of the much-anticipated federal “Economic Stimulus” payments, the scramble to tap into that retail bonanza has begun. So we get double goodness: a not inconsiderable windfall and aggressive deals on consumer electronics.
Judging from a new study by Consumer Electronics Association, big screen HDTVs are likely to be hot items when those IRS checks get cashed.
“More than 50 percent of American homes already own a digital television and it looks like high definition, or HDTV, has the potential to match that household penetration by the end of the year,” said Chris Ely, CEA’s senior analyst. “With the transition to digital television on February 17, 2009, lower HDTV prices and an increased awareness of the benefits of high definition, many consumers are deciding to upgrade their televisions.”
How many chances do we get to turn around the economy AND throw a kickass NBA finals watching party?

HDTV yes, but for movies and games especially. I’ll pass on the NBA finals.
